1. ask for a one time curtsy waiver for being a loyal customer. If they say no, ask to speak to a supervisor. The rep will insist the boss will tell you the same thing, but they are usually more helpful. If you have a lot of late fees, this won't work.
2: If you have another card, imply that you will transfer a large amount to GE card
3. If you have another card, and you can, transfer a large amount from GE card to that card, even if it's a high balance (make sure they don't charge for transfer or it won't work financially), then call back GE in a month and say you have something you want to charge, but you were disapooint in their customer service but still believe in the company and ask if rep (and then supervisor if needbe) to refund charge so you can make this very large charge with GE.
If they can't, ask if they can at least lower you interest rate (different department-- who normally lowers interest rate when you transfer away).
don't cancle card or threaten to, it's part of your credit and helps credit report. Admit they're doing you favor and ask like it is a favor.
