writes: HelloMy bofriend of 2 years was made bankrupt 12 years ago after his split up from his ex-wife and recently he has been receving letters from a company he owed money to before he went bankrupt demanding that he pay them £50.00 per week until the money he owes them is paid off, are they allowed to do this as he cannot afford £50.00 per week as he was told by his bank manager that after so many years the people he owed money to cannot contact him by law as the money he owed was written off when he went bankrupt.  Hi there by law they can only go back (7yrs) to try and get money that is owed for a debt. When you BF filed bankrupcy did he list the company that is trying to get money from him now? If so then all he has to do is tell the company that he filed bankrupcy, make a copy of the
"discharge paper", & the paper that lists his creditors. Even if he did not list this company your BF is safe. The time frame alone is more than enough.. Please send me a email if I can be of anymore help... GOOD LUCK!

reader, anonymous, writes (18 November 2006): I maybe wrong but i think the company that is demanding money from your boyfriend after all these years is not in law to do this, as far as i know when your boyfriend was made bankrupt, the court and your boyfriend may have arranged for so much pence in the pound to be paid to the crediters, i would talk to somebody at your local cab, they are trained for these situations.
